AHL Photos: Hershey Bears vs. St. John’s IceCaps

The St. John’s IceCaps traveled to Hershey, Pa to take on the Hershey Bears during back-to-back games Feb 4 and 5.

Saturday, the IceCaps started strong as forward Charles Hudon needed less than two minutes to put his team on the score sheet. The Bears came back strong as forward Paul Carey was able to even the score 4:51 into the first. Bears defenseman Tyler Lewington secured the lead by scoring three and a half minutes later. The final goal of the first came from Bears forward Ryan Bourque, his first of the season. That would leave the first period 3-1, Hershey Bears lead.

Coming back for the second, the Bears increased their lead around two minutes in, when forward Stanislav Galiev buried a pass from forward Brad Malone. The IceCaps cut the lead in half when forward Chris Terry scored at 15:23. Before the period was over, the Bears re-gained the three goal lead when forward Christian Thomas put the puck past IceCaps goaltender Yann Danis, on the power play. Leaving the second period with a 5-2 lead for the Bears.

Both goaltenders held off scoring during the third period.  Despite out shooting the Bears 31-22, the IceCaps fell to the Bears with a  5-2 final score.

An afternoon re-match, the following day saw the two teams face IceCaps goaltender Charlie Lindgren and Bears goaltender Vitek Vanecek. The Bears gained a two goal lead in the first period with tallies from forward Chandler Stephenson and defenseman Christian Djoos. The IceCaps cut the lead in half when defenseman Josiah Didier scored 18:56 into the second period. However, forward Chris Bourque gave the Bears a two goal lead when he scored 3:41 into the third period. IceCaps forward Chris Terry scored for the second consecutive game to bring the score within one goal. Although, the Bears were able to hang onto the 3-2 win despite being out shot 30-25.

Next, the St. John’s IceCaps will travel to face the Penguins on Wednesday, Feb 8. While the Hershey Bears will also travel to Wilkes-Barre Scranton to face the Penguins Friday, Feb 10.
