The Robert Morris Colonials and Army West Point Black Knights had a split weekend at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center, Oct. 28-29.

The series started with a 2-1 win for the Colonials. Friday’s game also included a first collegiate goal for RMU freshman forward Dan Mantenuto.

The Saturday rematch between these Atlantic Hockey rivals was physically demanding and penalty-heavy as usual. The teams recorded 47 penalty minutes combined. At 7:12 of the third period, Army’s Mike Preston drew himself a five-minute boarding major and a game misconduct. However, the Knights held went on to win, 2-1 over the Colonials, securing a split, with two goals early in the second period from Zach Evancho and Brendan Soucie

The Colonials didn’t make the board until the third period with a goal from Ben Robillard. However, freshman Colonial goaltender, Francis Marotte, had an impressive series. Marotte started both games and recorded 42 saves over the weekend.

The Black Knights are home for a two-game set against Air Force this coming Friday and Saturday. Meanwhile, the Colonials will wage a home-and-home set with the Big Ten’s Ohio State Buckeyes.
