The Dallas Stars topped the Florida Panthers in a 2-1 overtime shootout thriller. After two scoreless periods, Florida’s Paul Thompson scored off of a fluky rebound from Greg McKegg. The Panthers kept their 1-0 lead until Dallas’ Patrick Eaves tallied a power-play goal, assisted by captain Jamie Benn and his brother Jordie Benn, tying things up with five minutes left to go in the final period.
During the 3-on-3 overtime, both teams were kept scoreless. Both teams recorded three shots on goal apiece and several blocked shots from Dallas’ Stephen Johns. Stars goalie Antti Niemi stood firm during the ensuing shootout saving all five attempts. Denis Gurianov, Dallas’ 2015 first round draft pick, secured the Stars’ victory with the lone shootout goal. The Dallas Stars now stand at 3-2-0 in the preseason.
